FAQ
Q. What is Saengsaeng Henna?
Saengsaeng Henna is a functional cosmetic product made by fermenting and maturing traditional henna powder with edible ingredients (Patent No. 10-2051799).
It is Korea's first food-based natural hair dye certified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (No. 12071-1) for both safety and effectiveness.
It is also certified to contain no heavy metals, and passed a clinical test with a skin irritation score of 0.00, proving its safety for sensitive scalps.
Saengsaeng Henna uses Korea's first food-grade retort sterilization method to reduce aerobic bacteria below the standard limit—allowing long-term storage without any preservatives or chemical additives.
This healthy, fermented hair dye leads the future of 21st-century natural hair coloring.
Q. What color does it come out as?
When applied to gray or white hair, it typically results in a light brown tone.
However, depending on the hair’s protein condition, you can achieve a deeper brown by adjusting the application time and amount.
Please note that black color cannot be achieved with Saengsaeng Henna alone.
If reddish or yellowish tones appear on gray hair after dyeing, and you wish to turn it into dark brown or black,
you can apply a secondary strengthening dye.
To do this, simply purchase the strengthening color product separately and apply it after Saengsaeng Henna to deepen the tone beautifully.
Q. Are there any side effects?
There are no known side effects because the potential irritants are naturally removed through the fermentation and maturation process.
In a clinical skin irritation test conducted by the Korea Dermatology Research Institute, Saengsaeng Henna received a mean score of 0.00, confirming it is non-irritating.
Additionally, heavy metal testing conducted by a certified lab found no detectable levels in the product.
However, individuals who are allergic to any of the food-based ingredients in the formula—such as coffee, vinegar, egg, gold powder, or kelp—should contact us before purchase.

Q. Is it safe for cancer patients to use?
Yes, Saengsaeng Henna is made only with natural henna powder and food-grade ingredients—free from any chemicals such as PPD, preservatives, or artificial fragrances.
It is so pure that it’s safe enough to be ingested, though it is not intended for consumption.
Because it contains no synthetic substances, it is highly recommended for those who cannot undergo chemical hair coloring, including patients with health conditions.
In fact, the seller of this product went through breast cancer and is currently in recovery, and now personally uses Saengsaeng Henna—this is why she recommends it with care and sincerity.
Q. How long does the coloring process take?
When first applying to gray or white hair, we recommend leaving the dye on for 2 to 3 hours, once a week for about a month.
This helps the hair gradually adapt and develop a brown color.
Once the color tone becomes more even overall, you can reduce the application time to around 2 hours, and it will still both color and nourish the hair effectively.
If you wish to achieve a darker shade or provide extra nourishment, you can extend the time or increase the frequency of use as needed.
Q. Does the color bleed or wash out easily?
No, Saengsaeng Henna does not bleed or wash out after rinsing.
Because it is fermented and matured, its particles are finer than regular henna powder mixed with water—this allows it to be absorbed more quickly and evenly into the hair.
As a result, there is no noticeable color bleeding, even when swimming or bathing.
Q. I have 70–80% gray or white hair. What’s the best way to use it in this case?
If you have mostly white or gray hair (70–80% or more), we recommend doing intensive applications 4 to 5 times over two weeks, which will gradually develop into a natural brown tone.
After this initial phase, coloring once every two weeks is usually sufficient for maintenance.
(See our blog post from April 30, 2019, for a real-life story of someone who transformed fully white hair into a deep brown tone.)
If this process feels too time-consuming or difficult, you can start with a strengthening pre-color using Dark Brown Herbal Henna on gray hair. Then, switch to Saengsaeng Henna for ongoing scalp and hair care.
As your roots grow out, simply apply Saengsaeng Henna once a week—and over time, you'll be able to maintain a dark brown shade without needing the pre-color treatment.
Q. I heard that henna coloring can interfere with perms. What about Saengsaeng Henna?
It depends on the thickness and condition of your hair, but Saengsaeng Henna is fermented and finely processed, which means it absorbs well into the hair and does not interfere with perm solution absorption.
We recommend waiting about 3 to 4 weeks after coloring with Saengsaeng Henna before getting a perm. When you do, using slightly smaller rollers than usual can help achieve the best curl results.
Q. Which is better: perm first or color first?
For best results and safety, we recommend doing your Saengsaeng Henna coloring first, then waiting 1 to 2 weeks before getting a perm.
That said, the order is ultimately up to your personal preference and hair condition.
If you choose to perm first, using slightly thinner rollers and then applying Saengsaeng Henna right afterward can also give you a soft, natural-looking wave.
Q. What kind of shampoo is best to use?
We recommend using a shampoo specifically formulated for henna, as it helps preserve the color and improve the overall condition of your hair and scalp.
Our brand's Black Garlic Henna Shampoo is an excellent companion to Saengsaeng Henna.
It helps the henna pigment bond more effectively to the hair, adds elasticity, and promotes thicker, healthier-looking hair through natural coating and scalp care effects.
Most importantly, it also helps deepen the color tone after henna dyeing.
Q. My hair got damaged and feels rough after a perm. What should I do?
If your hair feels dry and brittle due to a perm, we recommend adding an egg yolk to your Saengsaeng Henna paste and letting it sit for about a day to ferment.
Then, apply Saengsaeng Henna once a week for about a month. This will help restore moisture, thickness, and elasticity to your damaged hair.
Over time, your hair will absorb essential nutrients, resulting in healthier, stronger, and more vibrant strands than before.
Q. Should I wash my hair before coloring?
If you’re experienced with using Saengsaeng Henna, you may not need to wash your hair beforehand—
simply spray some purified water on the hair to lightly dampen it before applying the dye.
However, if you're new to self-coloring, we recommend washing your hair first and then gently towel-drying to remove only excess dripping water.
This helps prevent the paste from drying out too quickly, which can affect color and nutrient absorption.
If your hair begins to dry during the application, you can respray purified water or dab water onto your hands and apply it to the hair as needed.
💧 Always use purified water (such as filtered or bottled water) for best results.
Q. Why should natural hair dye be applied to damp hair?
In general, dry hair is at its strongest, which is why chemical dyes are usually applied when the hair is dry.
But with natural henna dyes, it's essential to apply them to damp hair when the strands are at their most absorbent and vulnerable.
If you apply natural henna dye to dry hair, the henna cannot properly absorb into the strands —
it will simply flake off without delivering color or nutrients.
Q. What is Premium Gold Saengsaeng Henna?
Premium Gold Saengsaeng Henna is a top-tier natural hair dye that not only colors gray or white hair but also includes added ingredients like beer yeast and gold powder.
Beer yeast provides nourishment to the hair and helps strengthen the hair roots, while gold powder promotes better blood circulation and oxygen supply within the scalp's pores.
It also plays a detoxifying role, helping eliminate toxins—this means no side effects. The scalp gains more elasticity, and the pores contract, allowing hair to grow stronger and anchor more firmly in place.
This makes Premium Gold Saengsaeng Henna a luxurious, effective solution for natural gray coverage and scalp care.
Q. What if the color doesn’t come out well when doing it myself?
Traditional henna mixed with water has coarse particles, which makes it difficult to absorb into the cuticle layer without aggressive hand-rubbing—something that can be hard to do alone.
However, Saengsaeng Henna has been finely ground and fermented, making it much easier to absorb. Think of it like stuffing kimchi into napa cabbage leaves—it spreads easily over the hair.
Simply apply generously to your hair, leave it on for about 2 hours, and it will both color and nourish the hair at the same time.
For a deeper shade, you can increase the duration and frequency of use.
And of course, for more even coloring, it’s easier when you take your time and rest while applying.
Q. I’m trying this myself for the first time. Can I do it well?
Don’t worry—when your order ships, we include a printed guide on how to dye your hair and what to keep in mind.

With chemical dyes, you usually avoid the scalp, which often requires help from others.
But Saengsaeng Henna is natural and safe for the scalp, so the more it touches, the better!
Just massage it into your scalp and hair like you would shampoo, using your hands.
You don’t even need a brush—it’s really that simple!
Q. I had henna done at a salon, and now my hair feels rough. Why is that?
This may be due to the high iron content in certain henna products—or more likely, because a black chemical henna containing synthetic ingredients was used.
To restore your hair, we recommend applying Saengsaeng Henna once a week for about a month. This will help your hair return to its healthy, natural state.
Q. How often should I use Saengsaeng Henna?
In the beginning, it's best to use Saengsaeng Henna once a week for about a month. This helps damaged hair recover from previous chemical treatments and allows it to adjust naturally.
After that, since henna pigment typically remains on the hair for about 15 days, you can reduce the frequency to once every 2 to 3 weeks.
Just like your facial skin, your scalp also ages over time. To keep it firm and healthy, we recommend using Saengsaeng Henna regularly every 2 to 3 weeks to maintain healthy, shiny, and voluminous hair.
Q. Why does henna sometimes cause facial darkening?
This issue often occurs when people mistake chemical henna (usually black or dark brown henna) for natural henna. When chemical henna is left on for too long, its synthetic ingredients can be absorbed into the bloodstream through the scalp's pores. This can lead to side effects like melasma (dark patches on the face and neck).
Natural henna’s base color is orange, so it cannot produce black or dark brown shades in a single application. Therefore, if you are using a black or dark brown henna product, do not leave it on for extended periods.
Additionally, for your safety, avoid asking salons to dye your hair black or dark brown with henna unless you are certain the product used is 100% natural and chemical-free.
Q. Can I use conditioner or treatment products with Saengsaeng Henna?
Saengsaeng Henna not only provides coloring effects, but also delivers total hair care benefits—including scalp treatment, hair elasticity, and natural coating similar to conditioner or treatment.
Because of these properties, your hair will remain strong and voluminous even without the use of additional conditioner or treatment products in your routine.
Q. How can I reduce the coloring time?
To shorten the coloring time, apply Saengsaeng Henna and then cover your hair with a vinyl hair cap to help the paste adhere closely to the strands. Using a hair dryer or electric heating cap to gently warm the head for about 10 minutes will accelerate absorption, allowing you to reduce the overall dyeing time.
Q: Is your product FDA approved?
The FDA does not approve cosmetic products before they go to market.
However, our manufacturing facility is officially
registered with the U.S. FDA under
MoCRA (Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act).
This means we comply with FDA safety and quality regulations, making our products
safe for even the most sensitive users — including cancer patients and pregnant women.
